Sergio Aguero or kunas he is fondly known as is the Argentine number 9 (striker) both literally and position wise, currently turning out in Manchester blue, Kun Aguero has established himself as one of the most consistent premier marksmen in the Barclays Premier League or for that matter wherever he has set foot.
The independent youth product began his youth career at the tender age of 9, the young boy at 15 years 35 days debuted for independent, breaking Diego Maradona’s previous record. He also, the next season became the youngest player to appear in the Copa Libertadores, a record he held for three years
At 18, for 23 million euros he moved to Atletico Madrid, and in the heart of world football, a star, who the previous season had scored at the rate of a goal every two games with a Maradona-esque goal from a run inside his own half, beating the whole opposing team with his two good feet had arrived.
Life away from home was tough and manager Javier Aguirre eased him both into the league and Spanish life. He found the perfect strike partner in ‘El Nino’, Fernando Torres, but soon got into, controversy as the first goal he scored was by his hand, instantly drawing negative comparisons with Maradona. He ended the season with 7 goals, not mind blowing but decent.
GOALS REACHED :
The next (2007-08 ) season was better for Aguero, with the departure of Torres to Liverpool he became the focal point and with good all-around play adding to his kitty of 19 goals he at the age of 19 became the most important player on the pitch. The performance of the season, undoubtedly, came against Barcelona in March 2008 when ina 4-2 victory, the Argentine scored two, assisted one and with his electric movement won a penalty.
He scored also against other major opponents like Real, Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal, helping them finish fourth, taking them to the champions league for the first time in a decade.
The next season was again better than the last, with Aguero forming a lethal striking partnership with fellow former independent player Diego Forlan, the perfect strike partnership, Forlan was the aging veteran, looking at the positioning, lethal with his passing, and a much younger, more lethal, hungrier and faster Sergio appeared. The partnership sure did work, well, as exemplified by a match in March 2009, where the duo scored a brace each to win a thrilling encounter 4-3 after the 90th minute, signifying a new resilience about the team. Come to the end of that season both the marksmen were nominated for the Pichichi award, with Kun finishing in the top 10 and Forlan taking it home.
HOW HE DRAW THE GAME:
Not very prolific in front of goal, the following season, Sergio with his all-around game ensured that Atletico did brilliantly. In the champion’s league against Chelsea, he scored a brace in a 2-2 draw… Rescuing a point which albeit could not save the club from being knocked out of the competition. Landing them in the Europa league, whose final they played in and won against Fulham 2-1, Aguero assisting both the goals. They reached the Copa del Ray final too, ending on the losing side in that one. On 27 August 2010, Atletico, riding on his goal and his assist for Reyes’ goal, won the UEFA Supercup beating Inter.
2010 -11 MOMENTS
His final season for Atletico, the 2010-11 season was his most prolific in front of the goal, as he found the space between the sticks no fewer than 20 times, with. 7 game hot streak in the middle of the season. In his final game of the season, he not only scored a hat trick but also reached the milestone of his hundredth goal for the club.
PLAYED IN MANCHESTER:
Having completed his century of goals, Sergio in the 2011-12 seasons joined Manchester city, completing their search for a premier striker and they have not looked back since. On his 30 minute debuts with a brace and an exquisite assist, he told the league that an icon had arrived. At City, it took him just three games to score his first hat-trick against Wigan. Notable goals in the champion’s league against Villarreal and a goal in the famous 6-1 rout against United followed. Throughout the season Kun kept getting goals, both in Europe and England.
Surpassing the 20 goal mark. Kun also won city the title (after 35 years) with a stoppage-time goal, that will go down in history. To recount all the crucial goals Aguero scored after this would take eons to write off and comprehend, it would we believe suffice to say that, whether with Balotelli, or Tevez or even as a lone striker, Kun kept up the good performances scoring at an average of 30 to 35 goals every season.
The most notable of his performances include a 5 goal haul in a comeback against QPR, the hat-trick in a 3-2 win against Bayern, a brace in a 4-2 loss versus United, a hattrick at Stamford bridge, a notable incident being Sergio stopping a match against Everton to ensure that a fan received medical attention. The scorer of more than 150 goals for the club has, as current coach Guardiola observed, cemented his status as a legend.
For the national team, Sergio has played at the sub-junior 16 and junior 18 world cups also playing a crucial role in the 2008 Olympic triumph. At the 2010 senior world cup, Aguero had an immediate impact, at the 2015 Copa America he led his team to the finals, and was substituted in the final before the eventual loss in the penalty shootout.
The time spent at City also saw him getting into a car crash, leading to two broken ribs. While in Europe, Sergio has been the dream of many women but he pledges sincerity to Karina Tejeda, an Argentine celebrity, and pop star, an old flame of his. And his flame for sure is hot, nothing less than the man deserves.talking of old flames, he has been married to Gianinna Maradona, daughter of Diego Maradona before their eventual split after a child in 2012. With 228 goals at the club and 36 goals at the international level, Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero is a modern day legend
Summing him up, the two-footed Kun stands open of the premier number 9’s in the world and that his club Jersey bears the number 10 is a testament to his diversity. He can play with both feet, is good with the head, tracks back, can play as a number 9 or a number 10, has a brilliant understanding of the game and indeed as Mancini once said, he is almost a carbon copy of the Brazilian legend Romario.
